I'm sure I'm forgetting something..

Thirty things I vow to do this summer:

1. Laugh more.
2. Yell less.
3. Wear a bikini.
4. Stop obsessing over cellulite.
5. Get serious about running.
6. Daydream.
7. Wean X.
8. Step away from the computer. For hours.
9. Let the kids have ice cream from the truck, even right before dinner.
10. Have ice cream for dinner.
11. Let go.
12. Jump in the pool.
13. Jump in the ocean.
14. Jump in.
15. Dance in my bare feet.
16. Dance with my husband.
17. Say Yes.
18. Find my Red Dress
19. Slow down.
20. Take adventures.
21. Take time for myself.
22. Wear sunscreen.
23. Be open.
24. Romp like a child - with my children.
25. Clean out the garage (I know, but seriously? Disaster!).
26. Ride my bike.
27. Watch the kids play in the street until dark. Until after dark.
28. Cook.
29. Imagine.
30. Write.

Ice cream for dinner, excellent.

Love this list. I'm not sure what I'd put on mine...

I love this list, Cheryl. Come to think of it I should do one, too. Right away, some of these really hit home - thanks for sharing.

Ah summer! Sounds like a great list although I think I would pass on the garage clean out :-)

Great great great freakin' list...I'm ripping it off. :)

Fire 'n Ice Pickles
From the Kitchen of Deep South Dish

1 large (46 ounce) jar whole sour dill pickles,
about 6 cups sliced (not kosher dill)*
2-1/2 cups of sugar, divided
4 cloves of garlic, minced or thinly sliced and divided
2 whole jalapenos, chopped and divided
2 teaspoons of red pepper flakes
2 teaspoons of pickling spice, divided,
optional (recipe below)

Drain the pickles and discard juice but reserve the jar. Slice the pickles into 1/4 to 1/2 inch slices and divide into four equal parts.

Begin layering into a larger jar, bowl or container, starting with one-fourth of the pickles - in my case it was roughly a 1-1/2 cup measure of pickles per layer. Top the pickles with 1/2 cup sugar, 1 clove of garlic sliced or chopped, 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes, 1/2 teaspoon of chopped jalapeno, and 1/2 teaspoon of the pickling spice, if using, dropping a clove and piece of the cinnamon stick (from the pickling spice mixture below) in between the layers. Continue repeating the layers.

Cover jar and store on the counter for about an hour, or until the sugar begins to liquify. Stir or simply shake to mix the pickles well, and pull any undissolved sugar up from the bottom. Cover and leave on the counter for several more hours, or overnight. Stir and refrigerate 1 to 2 additional days. If desired, transfer the pickles with their juices back into the original or other smaller jars and store in the refrigerator.

Use for snacking, in sandwiches and burgers, in potato and pasta salads, or wherever you would usually eat pickles!

Homemade Pickling Spice
From the Kitchen of Deep South Dish

1 tablespoon of whole mustard seed
1/2 tablespoon whole allspice
1 teaspoon whole coriander seeds
1/4 teaspoon whole cloves, optional
1 small bay leaf, crushed

Combine ingredients. Use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of mixture per layer.

I liked the title and the list that followed. I am quite forgetful and I rely on lists. Thanks for the good list of fun things to do.

All great things!! Better you than me in that bikini! :) Maybe I should make that my goal for next summer.

I really admire your list. I put ride my bike on my mental list yesterday because I love it and never do it. It's so easy to let these things slip away.

Nice list! I really wish the ice cream truck came to our neighborhood. I chose the list prompt too and stepping away from the computer to actually watch a movie is on my list!

Such a great list...
I hope you attempt it all!! :)

Wear a bikini? Girl, you are much braver than I will ever be:)

Tylaine said...

Ya I like the idea of ice cream for dinner! :) Good list :)
Thanks for stopping by.

I may have to steal this list!!! Except for the bikini part--YIKES. I wish they still made those old-timey swimsuits with bloomers--that's a suit I can get behind! :) (And that hides my behind!)

P.S. I left a little something for you over on my blog. :)

I love this list. Especially the part about not obsessing over cellulite. I need to start doing that myself.

Great List! I like the dancing part and my boys would love the ice cream for dinner part.

Every summer I tell David I want an ice cream sundae bar for Sunday morning breakfast.

Every summer he laughs. This year...I WILL get it.

Natalie said...

Can I just cut and paste your entire list onto my blog? Seriously I just want to steal the entire list except #7 - I don't have anybody to wean ;)

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! Thought I would return the favor. I want to come spend summer at you house! Ice cream for dinner? Out plaing after dark?? You rock!! :)

Varda said...

I ditto just about everything, except: we live in NYC, no garage (OK, I guess you could clean out our storage cubicle in the building's basement) and you will NEVER see me in a bikini, not after what carrying full term twins did to my body (14 lbs of babies + 2 placentas, etc. - you get the picture) Love to you!

Love the list. I'm right there with you on a lot. Yelling less would be nice, but seems like a dream... I did get a bike and am going to tote Will and I around this summer. :)

Pua said...

That's a great list! I'm not sure what I'd put on mine tho...

I love the idea of not stressing over cellulite! Perhaps the running will help? That's what I'm shooting for on my run! :)

Awesome list.

I wish I could wear a bikini. But alas I have extra fat and tons of stretch marks.

TKW said...

Your kids will definitely endorse the ice cream ideas!

You know why I love blogging? Because of all of you. Seriously. I know it's totally sappy, but it's true!

Melissa - Haven't run the "ice cream for dinner" thing by hubs yet, but hey - we could put fruit on it! That would be healthy!

Caroline - I want to see your list!

Jill - You could totally rock a bikini!

AM - The garage taunts me. It really does.

Alex - You can rip it off, but you're going to have to come over and cook me something in exchange!

Laurie - I'd rely on lists, but I'd never be able to find them when I needed them!

MPG - I know. My bike is sorely neglected and collecting dust.

Melissa - A movie? On the TV? Quite a concept!

Corinne - I hope I attempt it all too!

Debbie - I'm not brave. I'm just in denial.

Tylaine - Thanks!

Lucy - I would like a bathing parka, but sadly, haven't been able to locate one. Yet.

Salt - Yes. If I don't look at the cellulite, it's not there. Right? RIGHT?!?!

KLZ - YES! Demand it!

Natalie - Yeah. Weaning. Not looking forward to it!

Annie - It is fun times around here. Unless I'm yelling. Then, not so much.

Varda - Unfortunately, our washer/dryer is in the garage, so I can't NOT see it on a daily basis.

D&D - Let's compare notes on how the yelling less thing goes.

Pua - Thanks!

Adrienne - Running helps. As does not eating potato chips for lunch.

Julia - Yes. MUCH better. You'll see!

Empress - Clink back atcha!

WW - As do I, but hey, if people don't like it, then don't look at it. That's what I'm saying at this moment, anyway.

TKW - I have a feeling they will definitely be in favor.

Wonderful list! I might just print it and stick it on my fridge as a reminder. We get so busy we forget to get out there and have fun. Whatever happened to fun? I'm with you, time to start having fun (but nay to the garage...waaaay too much work).

Lisa said...

I feel relaxed just reading this. Which is great, because my kids acted like bipolar hummmingbirds on speed all day today.

But wait, we're talking about you. Great list, you. :-)

hezro said...

Awesome! This is a great list! I've been trying to do a bunch of this stuff too. Glad to know I'm not the only one. :)

Corine (@ComplicatedMama) said...

So many on this list that I would like to do too---like slow down, yell less, laugh more...

Great list!

I did the "Before I was a Mom" prompt

Cheryl said...

Lori - You're right - whatever did happen to fun? I'm bringing fun back (not quite Justin Timberlake, but whatevs).

Lisa - See? Relax was on my list!

Hezro - You are definitely NOT alone!

CM - Maybe you need to do a list too?

Gen - YES! Do your list!! And thanks!

Karen - I will definitely keep tabs on this list!

Tonya - Hubs is actually a great dancer. I'm hoping we get the opportunity at some point.

Christy - Luckily my kids don't read well enough yet to know I've actually put it on my list..

Mama Kat - There will not be room for you in my bikini, as my big ass will take up all the space.

Amy - Yes, get him to dance!
