Are you a crafty person? Do you get super-excited when your kids come home with an assignment for a class project? Yes?
Then we're through here.
I kid, I kid. Truth is, I NEED YOU! I'm the Anti-Craft and I'm terrified because my kindergartner just came home with an assignment to make a farm.
Read about it at the OC Moms Blog and then come back here and give me ideas.
Unless, you know, you really don't care about my poor kid, who's been "blessed" with me as his mom. Because this project will be on display at Open House night! The humanity!
Looking forward to your help!

From a crafty mom, let me say this:
1. No one will be judging your family farm. Most crafty moms I know are only concerned about how *theirs* turns out (competitive with themselves) not anyone else.
2. It's all about the illusion of whatever it is that you're making. Didn't I give you this lesson before? It's the *illusion* of (insert whatever you're making). Just tell everyone to cock their head to one side and squint.
3. If all else fails, print out a picture of a farm and glue it to a shoe box. Teachers love shoeboxes.
Seriously, you'll do great!
Bring in the Little People's play set... oh wait, it doesn't have a silo like it did back in my day. You'll have to find a 70's model :)
LOL! I can so relate!
Oh Cheryl, I am the complete Anti-Craft too and am dreading the day when my daughter comes home with an assignment like this. All I can suggest is google it - making a farm for the totally non-creative or some such and see what comes up! Google is the friend of all those born without creative skills! Either that or perhaps there is an aunt, uncle, grandma or granddad or SOMEONE who can help?!?
Oh sweet mercy...
Ask around for someone else to help. I can't even make paper-mache but my daughter's best friend's Mom is amazing! And she volunteers all the time to help me!!

You're screwed. Just kidding! All I got is that a toilet paper roll could be a silo.
If it were me I would start with maybe a box lid like one from a case of copy paper. Make a fence out of popsicle sticks. Some green playdough for grass. (make it home made to save money) buy some little animals from the dollar tree (may find some in the toy box at the bottom of course). If you roll the playdough out everything should stick in it and stay put. You should have a barn but I really don't have an idea for that one. Good Luck.
What the heck?? They assigned a big farm project to be on display the same night?!?
I liked the suggestion from someone on FB (haven't been over to SVMoms yet.)
Also, those little Bendaroos? THey'd work for this. (even if they sound like UNDEROOS. Disturbing.)
Good luck. Please check out my blog for an important post. Thanks, Karen
Crafty projects don't have to be stressful! Deep breaths! :0)
- Play-Doh is always a good medium to use to mold some veggies and fruit. They can have a fairly non-descriptive shape and still pass for anything.
- If you have some Legos, have your son help you build some sort of house/shelter that can pass as the barn. Buy a piece of brown felt from the craft store (or the local Target if you hate craft stores) and tape/glue it to the Lego's to make a roof.
Hope that helps some!
Why don't you try and find magazine images of animals... make the barn and silo out of craft sticks that you can find at Michaels.... I always loved the coloring pencils shavings for the grass effects....
you can also get the bigger flower sprinkles to glue unto the grass..... after you cut out the magazine animal pics trace them on cardboard, cut the cardboard and glue the images to give them firmness....
